Week 5

That’s My Land

Today, I am going to go over a PowerPoint with you. I’m going to talk about Israel and why there is constant fighting there.

Before I go over the presentation, you are going to do an activity. I will explain the activity to you, but you can get it from here: That’s My Land  Go ahead and open it up.

After you and your partner finish dividing your land, be ready to have your map pulled up on your screen and wait for other’s to get done.

If you have any missing assignments from your last rotation, they are due today. If I don’t receive them today, I will mark them as missing.

PowerPoint Project

The next thing we are going to do is start a small project. You will be assigned a Middle Eastern country to research and create a PowerPoint. You will have 3 class periods to work on it. For this assignment, I want to see what your current PowerPoint skills are like. Later this semester I will teach you the Do’s and Don’t of PowerPoint. It just teaches you the bare basics.  You can access it on the Video (V) Drive>Osborne>Computer Tutorials> PowerPoint Basics.

You need to open this document to find out what country you have assigned to you and to find out what the directions are for the project. A scoring guide is also located inside this document: Middle East Project

When you find your pictures for your country, don’t just copy and paste them. Save the pictures. It helps keep the file size of your PowerPoint down and it also makes it to where if you need to find the picture again, it’s easy because you have it saved.

To save a picture:
  1. Right click on the picture
  2. Click “Save image as”
  3. Save it to your H Drive
To put the picture in your PowerPoint:
  1. Click the “Insert” tab at the top of the screen
  2. Click “Picture”

When Finished

Whenever you are finished with all of the assignments, I want you to complete this simulation. Tomorrow is the Presidential Inauguration so it would be good for you to see some of the types of things our president has to do over the course of their 4 years in office. Whenever you finish the simulation, I want you to show me your score. The high score for each class will get a prize.

Week 3

Missing Assignments

If you still have any missing work from last rotation, you have until Friday to turn it in! If I don’t receive it by Friday, I will mark it as missing and the best grade you can earn after that is a 50% if you turn it in. You either need to finish it at home, library, neighbor’s house, etc. or you need to make arrangements with me to come in before or after school.

Islam and Extremists

Very few groups finished Tuesday’s assignment about Islam. Finish that first today.

Then you are going to learn about Judaism and Islamic Extremists. These Muslims give all other Muslims a bad name because of the things they do. Many people believe that all Muslims are evil or violent because they hear what these groups do, but that isn’t true. First I want you to watch a short video about the Taliban.

You can access the video from Video (V) Drive>Osborne>Middle East>Taliban.

Then I want you to read about the Taliban, Al-Qaeda, and ISIS in this document: Extremists

After you read about the Extremists, you need to answer these questions about them:  Islam Extremists

Whenever you are all the way finished, save it and turn it in.

After you read about Judaism, you need to download this document and follow the directions: Judaism Questions

When you finish, save it and turn it in:

Week 3

Missing Assignments

I will give you about half of the class to try to get any missing work finished up and turned into me. If you have anything missing, you have until Friday to turn it in with no penalty. If I don’t get it until after Friday, the best you can get on it is a 50%.

If you are already finished with everything, you know what you are allowed to do with free time. I will put up a new seating chart later this hour.

New Assignments

Don’t open any of the documents below until you are sitting with your new partner.

Today we are going to learn about the most dominant religion in the Middle East which is Islam. We have to learn about this religion because there is so much in the Middle East that is impacted by it. Certain countries were created because of it. Other countries don’t get along with other countries because of it. In order for you to understand this part of the world you need to have a basic understanding of Islam.

Download and read this PowerPoint: Islam

After you read the PowerPoint, download this document and answer the questions. Basics of Islam  Make sure you read and follow the directions to this assignment so you can get full credit.

Whenever you are finished, save and turn it in.

You will not have a unit test over the Middle East. Instead you are going to work on a sorting assignment. This is worth 40 points and it covers what we have discussed over the past few weeks.

1. Open this document:  Sorting

2. You need to cut and paste each of the text boxes that are in the last 3 slides, onto the correct slide.

To cut, click inside the box with the text>move your mouse to sit on one of the borders of the box (it should change from a cursor to an arrow going 4 different directions)>right click your mouse>click cut

To Paste, go to the slide you believe is the correct slide it goes with>right click> select paste

Week 4

Today, I am going to go over a PowerPoint with you. I’m going to talk about Israel and why there is constant fighting there.
