Week 2

Gandhi Wrap Up/ Catch Up Day

Today you will finish watching Gandhi and then you need to finish and turn in your Movie Guide questions. Also, check your grades on Infinite Campus. If there is any assignment for this class that doesn’t have a grade, you haven’t turned it in.

Week 2

Gandhi

Today we are going to finish the movie. After you finish watching part 4, you should be able to answer all of the questions on the movie guide.

In the video yesterday, you saw India win their Independence. Today you will see new issues pop up for them. The Hindus and Muslims were having trouble getting along in their country so they felt they needed to figure out a way to fix that problem so they could avoid a civil war.

After you finish the movie guide, turn it in.

Week 2

Gandhi

Today you will watch Gandhi Part 3.

Yesterday, the movie ended with the Amritsar Massacre. It was reported that the British fired 1,650 bullets at the unarmed Indians. Both sides debate the number of people killed. The British claimed that around 380 people died and a further 1,200 were wounded. The Indians claim that around 1,000 people died with another 500 injured. General Dyer’s punishment for ordering the Massacre was, he was forced to retire from the military and sent back to England. That was it. When he returned to England, he was treated like a war hero by many people.

Don’t forget about your questions from the movie guide.

Week 2

Gandhi

Continue watching Gandhi.

Today you will watch part 2. Go to Google Drive>Team Drives>Osborne>Southeast Asia> Gandhi Part 2

In part 2 Gandhi is trying to rediscover India. He’s been in England and South Africa for so long that he doesn’t remember what India is like so he wants to re familiarize himself with it before he does anything to help them gain their Independence.

Remember that you have questions to answer from the video guide.

Week 2

Washington DC Trip

Mr. Collier (8th Grade Social Studies teacher) is planning an educational trip to Washington DC in June 2020. He is looking for students that would have interest in going to this. If you are interested in learning more, let me know and I will give him your name so he can get you the information.

Gandhi

Today we are going to begin watching the movie Gandhi. This is a real movie that won the Academy Award for best picture in 1983. Ben Kingsley is the actor who plays Gandhi and he won the Academy Award for best actor that year as well. This movie does a perfect job of showing how India gained its independence from Great Britain. Great Britain ruled India and the people of India didn’t like that.  It also explains why Pakistan was created because Pakistan used to be part of India.

As you watch the movie, you need to be mindful of the questions on the movie guide. That can be accessed at Google Classroom. You need to answer the questions and you will turn the document in whenever you finish watching the movie. That won’t be until thursday at the earliest.

To access the movie go to Google Drive>Team Drives>Videos>Osborne>Southeast Asia>Gandhi Part 1
