Week 6

Today we are on the 1:00 bell schedule. You will only have about 28 minutes (except 5th hour). After Thanksgiving Break, I will give you 1 more full class period to finish your projects. Make sure that you save your project in the correct folder whenever you are finished.

After you finish, make sure that you turned in your Landform Vocabulary PowerPoint. I’m still missing several of those. If you have that turned in you may:

-Read a book

-Work on homework for another class

-Visit class links

Week 6

I’m going to take a look to see how close groups are to being finished today. You should be on step 4 (the final step) where you are working in Movie Maker. If you aren’t there yet, you are definitely behind. If I go off of the same schedule as last year, you would have today, tomorrow, and the first day back from break to finish before we present. I’m hoping we can stick with that schedule.

Week 5

I am not in class today or tomorrow. The substitute teacher has all of the directions for the project and he knows what you are supposed to be doing. If your name gets left behind you will receive a referral whenever I return. I don’t expect any issues from any of you. The substitute teacher also has my permission to take off points for off task behavior. Make sure you are using your time wisely. A lot of you should be working on your video by now.

Week 5

About half of you are finishing your storyboards. The other half of you are working on your Final Poster (plain white paper at the front of the room). Whenever you finish it, hold onto it because at some point you will need to take a picture of it with the digital camera.

Digital Camera Instructions:

1. Press the Power Button on the top.

2. Press and hold the Silver Circle on top to the camera to take a picture. You can zoom in and out with the long black button above “menu” and “s.night”, but you probably won’t need to use this.

If you are ready to start your commercial, watch the video tutorial for Windows Movie Maker. You can access the movie from the Video (V) Drive>Osborne>Computer Tutorials>Movie Maker Tutorial.

Tomorrow, I will post a link to the website I want you to use for your music. I also will have a tutorial video that will show you how to save the music to your H Drive.

You can view the example video that I created by going to the Video (V) Drive>Osborne>Sports Island Example

Week 5

Many of you are still working on step 2, which is creating the storyboard. Finish step 2 and turn it in. To turn it in, you must place it in the correct folder. The folder can be found here:  Students (I) Drive>Osborne>Your Hour>Storyboard

Make sure you only use open source pictures for your assignment or you will lose points. Use the link that I provided in the previous 2 entries.

After you finish step 2, begin working on your poster. You need to turn your storyboard into me first. Instead of poster board, you will use plain, white paper. You can get some from the front of the classroom. Step 3 will likely take you at least 2 class periods if you do it correctly. Remember that you are being graded for neatness on this. To get full points it must be your neatest handwriting writing whenever you draw, label, and color.

I do have 2-3 groups that are a little ahead right now. I don’t want some of my groups to get too far ahead so if you finish step 3 today, here’s what I want you to do:

1. Make sure you have saved your storyboard in the correct folder.

2. If you didn’t finish your Landform Vocabulary PowerPoint last week, finish that now.

3. If you have all the above finished, you may:

-Work on homework from another class

-Read a book

-Visit class links/Google Earth

Week 5

You should be working on Step #2 (Storyboard) today. If you haven’t finished Part #1, you need to speed up your work a little bit so you can catch up. When you work on your Storyboard, make sure you only use open source pictures for your assignment or you will lose points. Use the link that I provided in the previous 2 entries.

Once you finish your storyboard, you need to save it to:  Students (I) Drive>Osborne>Your Hour>Storyboard

If you finish part 2 today, begin working on your final draft drawing. You need to use plain white paper for this. You can get some paper from the stool at the front of the room. Make sure you use your best handwriting whenever you draw, label, and color your island. Also don’t forget to label your capital and include a compass rose.

Week 4

To stay on track you should finish step 1 (Preproduction Planning) today. Whenever you finish your script and the sketch of your island, you need to bring them to me for me to approve your topic and make sure you are heading in the right direction.

After you finish step 1 you need to begin working on step 2. Here is the website that you need to use to find some open source pictures for your assignment: http://search.creativecommons.org/

Here is my example of the storyboard: Storyboard example

The directions for the entire assignment along with a scoring guide can be found here: CREATE AN ISLAND – Scoring Guide

Week 4

Today is your first day to work on the Island Project.

The scenario for this project is that you have a long lost relative that just died and they left you an island they owned. You want to make some money from the island so you have decided to open up the island for tourists to visit.

Today you need to focus on step #1 from the directions which is your Preproduction Planning. You need to work on your rough draft/script. Select your theme and your 10 landforms. Also, make sure you draw a sketch of your island. Whenever you think you are finished, show it to me.

Some of you may finish today, but I expect that most of you will finish this step tomorrow.

If you do finish this step today, here is the website that you I want you to use to find some open source pictures for your assignment: http://search.creativecommons.org/

Here is my example of the storyboard: Storyboard example

The directions for the entire assignment along with a scoring guide can be found here: CREATE AN ISLAND – Scoring Guide

Week 4

I will give you about 15-20 more minutes to finish up the Landform Vocabulary Assignment. If you are already finished with the vocab assignment, you may:

-read a book

-work on homework from another class

-visit class links

Today we are starting a huge project that will last through Thanksgiving Break. There are several steps to this project. It is very important that you follow directions very closely and that you do the project in the correct order.

The scenario for this project is that you have a long lost relative that just died and they left you an island they owned. You want to make some money from the island so you have decided to open up the island for tourists to visit.

You need to download this document and start looking over it: CREATE AN ISLAND – Scoring Guide

I will explain the project to you and show you an example of what a finished project should look like.
