Week 2

Today is a catch up day. The first thing I will do is go over what students are missing work. If you think you have all of your assignments finished, you can check for yourself. Check your grades on Infinite Campus. Remember that if you ever have an assignment from me that doesn’t have a grade for you, that means I never received it.

Whenever you are finished with all of your assignments you have 3 options:

1. Read a book

2. Work on homework from another class

3. Visit class links on my website or Google Earth on the desktop

Week 2

Most of you finished the assignment yesterday and there are a lot of you who didn’t do very well on it. Today we are going to spend some time together talking about Absolute and Relative Location.

Go ahead and pull up your assignments from yesterday and open your textbooks to page 870.

After you do that, sit quietly and wait for me to begin today’s lesson.

Week 2

Even if you don’t have your other assignments finished, I want you to go ahead and move onto today’s lesson.

Today’s lesson will go a little deeper into what you’ve looked at the last 2 days in class. You need to click on this link and go through all of the pages on this website. It’s an interactive website that talks about maps, hemispheres, and absolute location.

I think the website has a lot of good information, but it doesn’t really teach you about Relative Location. Relative Location is a places location in relation to another location. You don’t use degrees whenever you find Relative Location.

For example:

Mexico is south of the United States.

Joplin is west of Carthage.

If you notice, there are 2 locations given in both examples and a direction is also given. That’s how Relative Location should always look. There are usually several different answers that could work for Relative Location.

After you go through all of the slides on the website above, you need to download and complete this assignment:  Absolute and Relative Location

Whenever you finish, save it and turn it in.

Week 2

Continue working on the assignment from yesterday. You should finish it today.

Whenever you save it, make sure it’s in your H Drive (MOSIS number) and in this format:

hr-last name-last name-Concepts

After you save, turn it in.

Whenever you are finished with this assignment and if you have all other assignments finished and turned in, you may:

1. Read a book

2. Work on homework from another class

3. Visit my class links or Google Earth on the desktop

Week 2

Next week we will finally be able to get into real world geography lessons where we will start talking about specific places around the world. Next Tuesday we will start talking about Carthage.

Before we can do that, we still have some basics to touch on. So far we’ve learned how to properly save, how to turn in assignments, how to properly search using Google, and how to use our textbooks. Before we can start talking about specific places, I need to be sure that everyone is familiar with some basic geographic concepts. Over the next few days we are going to cover section 1 from the textbook so we can make sure that everyone in class understands some of the core basics that we will use the entire semester.

You will use the textbook. You need to download the assignment here:   Core Concepts Part 1

Read and follow the directions. Make sure you use a different colored font for your answers and you answer all of your questions using complete sentences.

You likely won’t finish the assignment today. Whenever you save it, make sure it’s in your H Drive (MOSIS number) and in this format:

Week 1

Today the counselors are coming to speak with you for the first few minutes of class. Whenever they are ready to speak, turn off your monitor and give them your full attention.

After they are finished you need to continue working on yesterday’s assignment. To access the links, go to yesterday’s post.

Whenever you save it, save it as:

If you are able to finish it, turn it in after you save it.

If you get it turned in you may:

1. Read a book

2. Work on homework from another class

3. Visit the class links page on my website

Week 1

The first thing we will do is finish going over our Google Search assignment.

We still have a few more days of getting introduced to different tools that we will frequently use before we actually get into learning about World Geography content.

We don’t use our textbooks very often, but you still need to know where to find things in it for that times that we do use them. Later this semester you will have access to an online textbook, but the district hasn’t updated our Pearson accounts yet so you aren’t in the system. You and your partner each need a green textbook off of the shelf.

Open the assignment from the link below to begin working. Remember to use different colored font for your answers and remember to write your answers using complete sentences. Make sure you restate the question in your answers.

You can download the Get to Know Your Textbook assignment here: TEXTBOOK SCAVENGER HUNT

You will not finish this assignment today. Whenever you save it, save it as:

Week 1

You need to open your Google Search questions from yesterday. I will give you about 25 minutes to work on them. Then we will go over them as a class and I will give you tips on how to more effectively use Google.

do not want you to submit this file to me.

Week 1

Yesterday, only a few groups finished and turned in the questionnaire survey. If you didn’t finish it, I want you to go ahead and finish that assignment and turn it in before moving on.

Whenever you are finished you need to work on the Google Search assignment. I posted a link for you to download in yesterday’s post. You can also download it here: Google Search You will have the whole class period today and about 20 minutes tomorrow. Then we will go over it together as a class on Wednesday and I will give tips on how to be more effective using Google. You don’t need to turn in the Google Search assignment because we are going over it together. I will not help you with answers because I want to see if you can find them yourself.

Save it as:

Week 1

Today is the first day we will be using headphones. If you brought earbuds and you are wanting to leave them in here, grab a Ziploc baggie from the desk at the front of the room, by the bookshelf. If you don’t have earbuds or headphones then you will need to borrow some from the box on the floor at the front of the room. If you borrow some, you are responsible for using them carefully and for putting them back whenever you are done.

Today is your first assignment. I am mainly wanting you to learn how to save correctly and how to turn assignments in. You will be graded on whether you turned the assignment in correctly and how well you followed the instructions.

Click on this link: World Geography Questionnaire   You will do this assignment on this document. Make sure you read the directions!

Here is a finished sample for this assignment: Sample World Geography Questionnaire  You will want to look at this so you can see what your finished assignment should look like.

When you are ready to save your document I want you to name it:

hr-last name-last name-survey

You need to watch a tutorial video before you save or turn in your assignment. To access the video you need to open up your folder>Video (V) Drive>Osborne>Computer Tutorials>Saving and turning in.

If you finish the assignment today, you can go ahead and get a head start on tomorrow’s assignment. You can access it here:  Google Search
