Week 4

Review

The first thing we will do is a quick review. Click this link

Sorting Assignment

You will not have a unit test over the Middle East. Instead you are going to work on a sorting assignment. This is worth 40 points and it covers what we have discussed over the past few weeks.

1. Open this document:  Sorting

2. You need to cut and paste each of the text boxes that are in the last 3 slides, onto the correct slide.

To cut, click inside the box with the text>move your mouse to sit on one of the borders of the box (it should change from a cursor to an arrow going 4 different directions)>right click your mouse>click cut

To Paste, go to the slide you believe is the correct slide it goes with>right click> select one of the first 2 options

3. Whenever you finish, there shouldn’t be any text boxes left on the last 3 slides because they should be pasted onto the correct country or religion. There are 40 boxes.

Week 4

Missing Assignments

If you still have any missing work from last rotation, you have until this Friday to turn it in! If I don’t receive it by this Friday, I will mark it as missing and the best grade you can earn after that is a 50% if you turn it in. You either need to finish it at home, library, neighbor’s house, etc. or you need to make arrangements with me to come in before school.

PowerPoint Project

Continue working on your PowerPoint today. Don’t try to rush through it. You also have tomorrow to work on it. Make sure you are using the scoring guide to check to see if you have everything covered.

Friday’s post has the Scoring Guide, directions for pictures, and resources in it.

It should be saved as:

hr-last name-last name-Name of Country

Tomorrow is your final day to work on it. If you get it finished, turn it in.

People of Middle East

I’ve noticed that several groups are having trouble figuring out who the important people or people groups are for their countries. If you research the following, you should be able to find the ones that are connected to your country:

-Saddam Hussein

-Osama Bin Laden

-Immigrants

-Kurds

-ISIS

-Taliban

-Palestinians (PLO)

-Ayatollah Khomeini

-Businessmen

-Muhammad

-Sunni

-Shi’ite

Week 3

PowerPoint Project

The next thing we are going to do is start a small project. You will be assigned a Middle Eastern country to research and create a PowerPoint. You will have 3 class periods to work on it. For this assignment, I want to see what your current PowerPoint skills are like. Later this semester I will teach you the Do’s and Don’t of PowerPoint. If you have never used PowerPoint before, I have a basic tutorial video that you may watch. It just teaches you the bare basics.  You can access it on the Video (V) Drive>Osborne>Computer Tutorials> PowerPoint Basics.

You need to open this document to find out what country you have assigned to you and to find out what the directions are for the project. A scoring guide is also located inside this document: Middle East Project

Pictures

When you find your pictures for your country, don’t just copy and paste them. Save the pictures. It helps keep the file size of your PowerPoint down and it also makes it to where if you need to find the picture again, it’s easy because you have it saved.

To save a picture:
  1. Right click on the picture
  2. Click “Save image as”
  3. Save it to your H Drive
To put the picture in your PowerPoint:
  1. Click the “Insert” tab at the top of the screen
  2. Click “Picture”
  3. Find the picture you saved to your H Drive

Resources

You can use Google for the assignment, but here are a few resources you might want to use that can help you:

Culture Grams    Click on Asia and then select whichever country you have been assigned.

CIA Factbook    Click inside of the box that says, “Select a country or location”. Scroll through until you find your country.

I have a Word document that has some good information about each of the countries below. You will definitely want to read this. Click on your country to download it.

Week 3

Missing Assignments

If you still have any missing work from last rotation, you have until next Friday to turn it in! If I don’t receive it by next Friday, I will mark it as missing and the best grade you can earn after that is a 50% if you turn it in. You either need to finish it at home, library, neighbor’s house, etc. or you need to make arrangements with me to come in before school.

Judaism

If you didn’t finish yesterday’s assignment on Islamic Extremists then go ahead and finish that first.

The other major religion that we are studying in this unit is Judaism. Judaism is extremely important in Israel. You need to download this PowerPoint to learn about the basics of Judaism: Judaism

After you read about Judaism, you need to download this document and follow the directions: Judaism Questions

When you finish, save it and turn it in:

Week 3

Missing Assignments

I will give you about half of the class to try to get any missing work finished up and turned into me. If you have anything missing, you have until next Friday to turn it in with no penalty. If I don’t get it until after next Friday, the best you can get on it is a 50%.

If you are already finished with everything, you know what you are allowed to do with free time. I will put up a new seating chart later this hour.

New Assignment

Don’t open any of the documents below until you are sitting with your new partner.

After you get your new partner, you are going to learn about Islamic Extremists. These Muslims give all other Muslims a bad name because of the things they do. Many people believe that all Muslims are evil or violent because they hear what these groups do, but that isn’t true. First I want you to watch a short video about the Taliban.

You can access the video from Video (V) Drive>Osborne>Middle East>Taliban.

Then I want you to read about the Taliban, Al-Qaeda, and ISIS in this document: Extremists

After you read about the Extremists, you need to answer these questions about them:  Islam Extremists

Whenever you are all the way finished, save it and turn it in.

Week 3

Catch Up Day

Today should be your final day with your current partner. Since this is our 1st rotation, I’m going to monitor how many assignments are missing today. If I feel there are too many assignments missing, I will give you a little more time to work tomorrow.

I am going to announce what assignments are missing at the beginning of each hour. It would be a good idea for you to check your grades on Infinite Campus today.

At the start of class I’m going to show you a couple of tools you might want to use if you don’t get your assignments finished that can help you work on them outside of class.

Assignments from this Rotation

-Google Search Assignment

-Developed/Developing Excel

-Middle East Scavenger Hunt

-Basics of Islam

When Finished

If you have everything finished you are allowed to:

-Read a book

-Work on homework from another class

-Visit class links or Google Earth

Week 3

Schedule

Today you have a short assignment. This is your final assignment with this partner. Tomorrow I will give you a catch up day where you won’t have any new assignments. Wednesday we will get new partners and move onto new assignments.

Islam

Today we are going to learn about the most dominant religion in the Middle East which is Islam. We have to learn about this religion because there is so much in the Middle East that is impacted by it. Certain countries were created because of it. Other countries don’t get along with other countries because of it. In order for you to understand this part of the world you need to have a basic understanding of Islam.

Download and read this PowerPoint: Islam

After you read the PowerPoint, download this document and answer the questions. Basics of Islam  Make sure you read and follow the directions to this assignment so you can get full credit.

Whenever you are finished, save and turn it in.

hr-last name-last name-Islam

Catch Up

After you finish the Basics of Islam, you need to finish any assignment that you haven’t gotten finished with yet and turn them in. You will also have tomorrow to work on your assignments from this rotation.

Week 2

Developed/Developing Excel

If you are still working on this assignment, you really need to get that finished up asap. If you haven’t finished it yet, you are a little behind where you should be.

Middle East Scavenger Hunt

Continue working on this assignment. Very few students finished this yesterday. The directions for this assignment are on yesterday’s post.

Week 2

Excel Assignment

Most of you didn’t finish your assignment from yesterday. Keep working on it until you get it finished, then turn it in. All of the directions for it are still in the post from last Thursday.

Middle East Scavenger Hunt

This assignment will probably take you more than 1 class period to finish.

For this assignment you are going to help Mr. America plan a trip to the Middle East. He has lots of questions about what to expect.

You can access your assignment here: ME Scavenger Hunt

Make sure you read the directions that are at the top of the paper.

Whenever you finish, save and turn it in.

Hints

Hint: Christianity has an important presence and history in the Middle East, but it is not one of the 2 most common religions found there today.

Hint for #6, We have a lot of access to 1 of their precious resources. It’s not valuable to us. We kind of take it for granted.

Hint for #12, It varies between #1 and #2 ranked GDP per capita depending on the year. Some sources might have it listed at #2.
