Week 6

If you didn’t finish the Table assignment from yesterday, finish that first. After you finish the Table assignment I have a video lecture that I want you to watch.

This video covers how World War I and World War II affected European geography. You can access the video by going to C Drive>Osborne>Europe>WWNotes05-06

While you watch the video, follow the directions on taking notes about the cause of the wars and the inventions. You may either use your own paper or use Word. You won’t be turning this in, but you do have a few questions on the Final Test in a couple of weeks that comes from this lesson. The notes will help you on the study guide. I will give you the study guide next week.

Week 6

If you haven’t finished the European Landmark assignment, finish that first.

For this assignment you are doing something that looks familiar to you, but it’s a little different this time. You will not use Excel for this assignment. You will do this assignment in Word. I want you to create a table from scratch. To do that, you will need to open up a blank document in Word and then watch the tutorial video about creating tables:  Video (V) Drive>Osborne>Computer Tutorials>Creating a Table

Follow the directions from each of the steps below. I want you center all of your text in the column and in the cell.

1. 5  Headings- Countries$GDP, Life Expectancy, Literacy Rate, and Classification.    I want you to use size 18 font for the headings and make them bold.

2. In the countries column there are 15 countries I want you to include using 12 point font. They are: United Kingdom, France, Ireland, Spain, Portugal, Belgium, Netherlands, Switzerland, Italy, Greece, Sweden, Russia, Ukraine, Monaco, and Norway.

3. In the $GDP column, you need to use this link to find the GDP per capita in each of the countries.  Type the GDP for each country in the column using 12 point font. Make sure you use dollar signs.

4. Use this link to find the life expectancy rates for each country. Use 12 point font and round each number so there aren’t any decimal points. They should all be whole numbers.

5. To find the literacy rates, I want you to use Google tools. Go to Google and type in the name of the country you are looking for and the words Literacy Rate. Example, for the United Kingdom, I would go to Google and type in:   United Kingdom Literacy Rate   Use the literacy rates for the total population.  Round each number so there aren’t any decimal points. Use 12 point font. They should all be whole numbers.

6. For the Classification column, I want you to look at the data to determine whether you believe they are a developed country or a developing country. Use 12 point font to write which one you believe each country is.

You can use this chart as a guide to help you determine the classification.

Week 6

Today you are going to work on an assignment that focuses on European Landmarks.

Download the assignment from here:  European Landmarks

Use the internet to find a picture of the landmark and research information about it. On each slide you will need to:

1. Insert a picture of the landmark

2. Insert a textbox and answer what country it is located in.

3. Insert a textbox to answer what it is and why it is special. This one needs to be in complete sentences.

I did the first one for you as an example. You will have today and tomorrow to work on this assignment.

Whenever you are finished, save it and turn it in.

Week 5

There are very few students who finished the Scavenger Hunt yesterday. I planned on that being your last assignment this week. So if you haven’t finished it yet, you need to get that finished up today.

You still have another week with your partner, but you might want to check your grades in Infinite Campus. If there are any assignments from this week that you don’t have a grade for, that means you haven’t turned it in. This week we did:

-Religion Comparison Chart

-Europe Map

-Europe Scavenger Hunt

If you have all 3 of those turned in, today you may:

-Watch a special addition of Man Vs. Wild that is actually Men Vs. Wild with special guest star, Will Ferrell. You can access it at: Video (V) Drive>Osborne>Europe>MvsWArcticSweden

-Read a book

-Work on homework from other classes

-Visit class Links or Google Earth

Week 5

Most of you were able to start working on the European Scavenger Hunt yesterday. Continue working on it today.

***Note*** On #3, it’s one person that’s elected. What’s the name of their position? It’s not Parliament.

On #17, if you don’t know what the autobahn is, research it. You can’t just get your answer from the video if you don’t know a little bit about the autobahn. The autobahn is not the name of a car.

If you finish it, turn it in.

If you get finished early you may:

-Read a book

-Work on other homework

-Visit class links or Google Earth

Week 5

I anticipated that it would take most of you about 1 and a half class periods to finish the map. After you finish the map, you will have a new assignment today.

Today’s new assignment is your final time with Mr. America. Since I know how much you love him, I know that your completely torn up about that. This assignment will likely take most students at least 2 full class periods to complete. Europe has a lot of material for us to discuss.

Here is the European Scavenger Hunt:   Europe Scavenger Hunt

***Note*** On #17, if you don’t know what the autobahn is, research it. You can’t just get your answer from the video if you don’t know a little bit about the autobahn.

Whenever you finish, save it and turn it in.

Week 5

Today I want you to compare the 4 religions we’ve learned about this semester. It’s very easy to get them confused with each other. For this assignment, you don’t have to use complete sentences. Use a different color font for each column (up and down). There should be 4 different font colors used.

The assignment is found here: Comparing Religions

These are the PowerPoints you’ve read when learning about each of the religions:

Christianity

Hinduism

Judaism

Islam

When you finish the assignment, save and turn it in.

Week 4

Today is your final day with your current partner. You need to finish any missing assignments from the last 2 weeks and you also have a new assignment. I feel like I’ve given you enough time to finish the other assignments that we’ve done this rotation and today’s assignment shouldn’t take you very long.

We have a very busy rest of the school year in this class. Over the next 2 weeks we have quite a few assignments that will help you get familiarized with Europe. We will be learning about Europe the rest of the school year.

The main religion in Europe is Christianity. It doesn’t dominate the culture there as much as religion dominates the Middle East and India, but it still plays a major role in many European countries. Today you have an assignment that will teach you the basics of Christianity. You need to read this document: Basics of Christianity

After you read that document, you need to answer these questions: Basics of Christianity Questions

When you finish, save it as:

hr-last name-last name-Christianity

Check Infinite Campus to make sure you’ve turned all of your work in and to see what your grade is. If there is any assignment that doesn’t have a grade, then I haven’t received it from you. The assignments we did during this rotation are:

-Gandhi Quotes Assignment

-Australia Scavenger Hunt

-Australia Absolute and Relative Location

When you have everything turned in, by now you know what you are allowed to do.

-Homework from another class

-Read a book

-Visit Class Links or Google Earth

-Today I will allow you to watch a video from the Video (V) Drive>Osborne>MAP Days folder

You are not allowed to visit unapproved websites or just sit and visit. If you don’t find something to do, I will find something for you to do.
