Week 9

Today is the last day that you will have me in class. I hope that you have a new comfort level in dealing with technology. Next semester your World Geography class will be taught using more traditional methods.

I’m very impressed with how well you did this semester. You did a great job of taking the added responsibility that this class was designed to give you. Each semester keeps getting better and better.

Have a great Christmas break and good luck next semester.

You get to watch 2 new videos today.  They are both Christmas light videos. One of these is of a house that was in a commercial several years ago. It was one of the first videos of people syncing Christmas Lights with music. You can find it at Video (V) Drive>Osborne>Christmas>Christmas Lights   The second video is brand new and it’s of a Star Wars themed Christmas Light show.  It can be found in the same Christmas folder and it is titled Star Wars Christmas

Week 9

Today’s video is one last OK GO Video. This is their newest and in my opinion, their most impressive video. Nothing in this video is computer animated. I read an article about how they made the video and they slowed the music down and moved slower for some parts of the video. For the final edit of the video, they went back in and sped up the film. Everything you see they really created from using people and umbrellas. You can find it at: Video (V) Drive>Osborne>Christmas>OK GO Umbrellas

Almost all assignments are now turned in! If you still have anything missing, you need to work on that. If you have everything turned in, you need to click on this link and wait for me to give you the PIN #.

Week 9

Today’s video is another video of the guy with the funny and sometimes impressive camera tricks. You can find it at Video (V) Drive>Osborne>Christmas>More Camera Tricks

The first thing I want you to do today is Check Infinite Campus to make sure that you have a grade for every assignment for this class. If there are any assignments that you don’t have a grade, that means I never received it from you. You aren’t allowed to make up any 1st quarter assignments. If there is any work that doesn’t get turned in by the end of this week, it will be a zero. If you have a grade for every assignment, that means all of your work for this class is complete.

If you have all assignments finished you may:

-Work on homework from another class

-Read a book

-Visit class links or Google Earth

-Watch episodes of Mythbusters. I put a few episodes in the Christmas folder.

Week 9

Today’s video is pretty impressive. It was made by 1 person using only post-it notes. He took thousands of pictures of his post-it note creations. None of this video is computer generated. You can find it Video (V)>Osborne>Christmas>Post-it Note Arcade

Today’s assignment is OPTIONAL. I would advise everybody to do it though because it is worth 30 points Extra Credit. That’s quite a bit. There are 15 questions that are worth 2 points a piece. We’ve covered a few of these questions, but most of them are new material. They all have something to do with Geography.

You will use the same website you use for Common Assessments to complete this assignment. Click on this link to do the assignment.

Your username is first name, last name, 32  For example: mine would be jacobosborne32

Your password is your MOSIS #.

The secret word for this assignment is:  extra

Week 9

Today’s video brings the Ohio State Marching Band back. You already saw their tribute to classic video games, but their Hollywood themed halftime show was arguably more impressive. You can find it at  Video (V) Drive>Osborne>Christmas>The Ohio State University Hollywood Blockbuster Show

Only a couple of groups finished the assignment on Friday. Some of you got pretty close. Others of you still have quite a ways to go. Today you need to get that assignment finished. After you finish this assignment, turn it in. Reminder, make sure you stay away from the color blue whenever you color maps. Blue is generally associated with water. If you used blue, go back and change it to another color.

The plan for tomorrow is for it to be a catch up days. I’m still missing quite a few assignments throughout my classes. I’m still missing some:

-Landform Vocabulary

-Movie Maker Projects

-Climagraphs

-Latin America Scavenger Hunts

-Latin America Maps

Check Infinite Campus to see what your grade is. If there is any assignment that doesn’t have a grade listed for you, that means I never received it from you.

If you have everything turned in, I will have some activities for you to work on the next couple of days.

Week 8

Today’s video is another OK GO video. In this video, all of their music, except for the ukulele, is created by their car and the obstacle course. The math and calculations that had to have been involved are amazing. Video (V) Drive>Osborne>Christmas>Car Physics

Today you are likely receiving your final assignment for this class. Today’s assignment deals with Latin America maps. You will learn a new skill in Word to complete this assignment. You will need to watch the Tutorial video at Video (V) Drive>Osborne>Computer Tutorials>Using Scribble in Word. The document for your assignment can be found here: Mapping Latin America  Make sure you map all of the countries the directions tell you to. Don’t forget to map the Central American countries too.

Since this is the first time we’ve colored a map in this class I need to let you know that you need to stay away from the color blue whenever you color maps. Blue is generally associated with water so don’t use it on the countries.

When you finish the assignment, save it as:

Week 8

I love today’s video. It is of an awesome soccer goalie, the man, the myth, the legend…Scott Sterling. Even if you hate soccer, you’ll like this video. You can find it at Video (V) Drive>Osborne>Christmas>Soccer Goalie

You can also watch the short sequel at Video (V) Drive>Osborne>Christmas>Scott Sterling Christmas Make sure you watch the other video first!

Overall I am pleased with how well you did on the SLO Test. Most students increased their scores by about 20% since the pretest. As a reward for that, today we are going to watch a video about surviving in harsh, snow conditions in Sweden. You can access the video at Video (V) Drive>Osborne>Europe>MvsWArcticSweden

Week 8

Today’s video is a fun/creative video from a few years ago. A couple of college soccer players found inspiration from Angry Birds. The video became a hit that a couple million people enjoyed watching. There is sound in this video, but it is not needed so don’t worry about getting headphones unless you already have some with you. You can find it at Video (V) Drive>Osborne>Christmas>Angry Bird Soccer

Today you are going to take your SLO Post Test. Take your time. This is your only assignment today and it is for a grade. All of the answers are in the test if you know how to read the charts and maps.

You can access the test here.

Your username is your first name, your last name, 32     There are no commas and no spaces. For example, my username would be:  jacobosborne32

Yours should look exactly like that except you will insert your first and last name instead of mine.

Your password is your Mosis #.

I will tell you what the “secret word” for this assignment is whenever I’m ready for you to begin.

After you have taken the test:

1. Work on homework from another class

2. Read a book

3. Visit class links or since it’s a test day, I will allow you to visit Cool Math

Week 8

Today’s video is of the Ohio State University marching band. They are famous for their creative formations during halftime of football games. This video does have sound and it’s a tribute to popular, classic video games.

It can be found at Video (V) Drive>Osborne>Christmas>Ohio State Band

Tomorrow we will meet in the Media Center so you can take your SLO Post Test. This is for a grade! I will give you about 1/2 of the hour to either finish your SLO assignment from yesterday or to finish the Latin America Scavenger Hunt.

If you already have both of those done, I want you to do this short assignment on Climographs. Climograph Practice You don’t have to use complete sentences or turn this one in. The last part of class, we will review a little bit for the SLO Test.

Week 8

First a warning! Some of you have done a bad job of taking care of headphones that you are borrowing from me. On Friday there were 6-7 headphones tangled together because some of you didn’t wrap the cords back around and tuck in the end of the cord so it won’t unravel. If this happens again, you won’t have any headphones to borrow. You will have to bring your own or you won’t be able to watch any videos. If you borrow something, you either need to put it back the way you found it, or put it back in better shape.

In day 3 of the 12 Days of Videos I present an Ok Go video. Ok Go is a band that tries to think outside of the box to create their videos. I think some of their videos are absolutely brilliant. They will pop up another time or two before the semester is over. For this video they worked with students from MIT to put together this crazy Rube Goldberg Machine.

To visit today’s video, go to the Video (V) Drive>Osborne>Christmas>Rube Goldberg

Everyone is starting a new assignment today. Wednesday we are going to take our SLO Post Test. You already took this test at the beginning of the school year. It had a lot of maps, charts, and graphs on it. It’s something new we had to start doing this year. The first time you took it, you didn’t get a grade for it. This time you will.

Today you are going to do an assignment that has several questions that are very similar to what you will see on Wednesday. All of the questions focus on maps from Latin America.

Your assignment is located here: LA SLO Map Practice

When you finish, save it as:

hr-last name-last name-SLO Practice

Then turn it in.
