Week 6

European Commercials

Today we are going to start our presentations. We will get started in a couple of minutes. After we get through some of the presentations,  we will have some extra time to work for those of you that aren’t finished yet. We will finish presentations tomorrow.

Week 6

Final Work Day

Today is your last full work day to finish the project. I will give you about a little bit of time, to get things in order, tomorrow before we begin presentations. Since I am not here today, I expect you to be on your best behavior. If you finish your project today, make sure you turn it in. After you turn it in, you may play Cool Math.

Turning in your Project

There is no sound on the video. Ultimately, you are going to click the “download” button at the top of the screen in Spark and then put your download in the Student I Drive. Watch the video and it will show you what to do:  Google Drive>Team Drive>Videos>Osborne>Computer Tutorials>Turning in Commercial

Error Messages

If you get an error message or microphone error it is likely pretty easily fixable.

Microphone issue- make sure the microphone is plugged in and press the refresh button; that should fix it

GL Error- if the website keeps crashing while you try to preview it, open the Edge browser. That is the “e” at the bottom of the screen. It’s like Chrome, but it is Microsoft’s version of a web browser. Once you are in edge, go to Adobe Spark and log in.

Project

Continue working on the project. When you are finished with the project, the directions for turning it in is below:

Turning in your Project

I’m going to have you turn this project in a little bit different. I made a video that shows you how to turn it in.

Week 5

Creating the Commercial

For this part of the project you are going to use Adobe Spark.

Adobe Spark can potentially be kind of been a mess for logging in. The issue has to do with being 13 years old. If you are already 13, you should be able to log-in or create your account without problems. You just need to log-in with Google.

If you are not 13 yet, here is a work around for you to create your account.

  1. Go to google and click on your account in the upper right-hand corner.
  2. Click “Sign out”
  3. Go to Adobe Spark (the link is above)
  4. Click “Sign In”
  5. Click “Sign in with Google”
  6. Type your username and password like normal
  7. A screen will pop up asking for you birthday. Put a birthday in that is older than 13. The easiest way to do this is to put in your birthday like normal except choose the year 2005 as your birth year

After you get logged-in, watch the Tutorial Video that shows you how to use the program. You can access that video at: Google Drive>Team Drives>Osborne>Computer Tutorials>Spark Tutorial

*To record your voice, you will need to use special headphones. Ask the substitute for a pair and they will let you borrow some. These headphones are a little bit different:

-To get them to work, plug them into your USB Port at the front of your computer.

-Make sure the microphone is closer to your chin than it is to your nose. If you have it too close to your nose, it’ll pick up a lot breathing noises.

*When you add narration, wait one second after you press the record button before you begin talking and then hold the record button one extra second after you finish speaking so your picture stays on the screen a little bit longer.

Pictures

You will get most of your pictures from Adobe. Whenever you watch the Tutorial video, it shows you how to get pictures from Adobe. Those pictures are Open Source.

If there is a picture that you are having trouble finding in Adobe, you can use this link which is a website called Creative Commons.

To use Creative Commons, Type the word(s) you want to search for. Then click on Google Images. Then it will take you to pictures from Google Images that are all Open Source. When you find the picture you want to use, right-click on it and select “save image as” then save it to your H Drive.

Error Messages in Adobe

If you get a message that says something about a Web GL error in Adobe Spark, it’s a glitch. Just click the refresh button and that should fix it.

If you get a microphone error message and your microphone doesn’t work, make sure your microphone is plugged in and refresh your screen.

Week 5

European Project

Continue working on step 1. Remember this isn’t a report. It is a commercial. The information you use and your wording will be different than normal.

For part 1 you need to finish:

  1. Find 15 Artifacts
  2. Create your script
  3. Turn it into Google Classroom

Part 1 Finished

I you finish Part 1 today, you have free time to either:

  1. Read a book
  2. Work on homework from another class
  3. Visit class links/Google Earth

Week 5

European Commercial

Continue working on the Europe Commercial Project. Read the post from Thursday for the directions.

Step 1 should take you at least 3-4 days total. I won’t let anyone start working on step #2 until Wednesday at the earliest.

Today before you begin, I will talk to you about scripts.

REMINDER: This is not a report. It’s a commercial. Your wording will be different. You’re not just telling me about your country, you’re trying to get me to go there. You will probably want to stay away from starting slides with, “This is…”

Week 4

Europe Project

Today we are going to start a large project that we will be working on for the next couple of weeks. I am expecting very high quality work on this project. For this project, you will be creating a travel commercial for a European country.

The directions for the assignment can be downloaded here: Europe Project Directions Read all of the directions.

Read all of the steps and look over the scoring guide before starting the assignment. This is a huge project. It is worth 100 points!

There are 2 steps to this project. Make sure you follow them. Do everything in order that the project shows you. Everything builds on each other. Don’t go out of order!

1. Pre-Production Planning/Storyboard (Create a rough draft on Google Docs. I have given you a template to use. You will write your script word for word on it.

2. Create your commercial in Adobe Spark.

The first 3-4 classes working on this project, you need to focus on step #1 from the directions which is your Pre-production Planning. You need to work on your rough draft/script/storyboard. You need to do your research and come up with your 15 artifacts.

Remember that this is supposed to be a travel commercial. Select information about your country that a tourist would want to know and information that would make a tourist want to come to your country.

Week 4

Finish Missing Assignments

Today is the last day of this rotation. You will get new partners tomorrow and we will begin a large project.

If Everything’s turned in

If you have everything turned in, today you are going to watch a video about surviving in harsh, snow conditions in Sweden. If you watch movies around Christmas time, you will recognize one of the men in this video. You can access the video at Google Drive>Team Drive>Videos>Osborne>Europe>MvsWArcticSweden

Week 4

World War I and World War II

Both World Wars changed the geography of Europe quite a bit. The first part of class I am going to go over a presentation with you that gives a brief overview of the wars and how they changed the geography of Europe. You will take some notes over the material.

I created a notes sheet template for you in Google Classroom.

European Scavenger Hunt

Several students in most classes haven’t finished the European Scavenger Hunt so this is what we will continue to work on with extra time. Turn it in whenever you finish.
