Week 6

Today is an early out day! You won’t have long to work today. You will have today and next Monday to finish working on the project. We will start presentations next Tuesday. When you finish, make sure you save in the correct format in the correct folder. Read yesterday’s post for details.

When you save it in the Students (I) Drive>Osborne> Your Hour folder:

Save it as:    hr-last name-last name-name of your island

Week 6

I’m going to take a look to see how close groups are to being finished today. You should be on step 4 (the final step) where you are working in Movie Maker. If you aren’t there yet, you are definitely behind. I’m leaning toward giving you today, tomorrow, and the first day back from break to finish before we present.

Remember when you finish to save it in the correct folder:  Student (I) Drive>Osborne>Your Hour>Island Project  Make sure it’s saved in the correct format! If you don’t save it correctly, it won’t work.

Also, if your pictures are having problems on Movie Maker:

1. Delete them from your project  2. Rename them in your H Drive   3. Put them back in your project.

Week 5

Some of you are now working on your videos in Movie Maker. If you haven’t watched the Movie Maker Tutorial video yet, make sure you watch that before you start working.

You need to be 100% finished with everything before you worry about finding and importing music into your Movie. MUSIC SHOULD BE YOUR VERY LAST STEP! Here is the link to the music website that you are allowed to use. This is the only music website that you can use for this assignment. You can watch a video that shows you how to use this website and how to save the music. Go to the Video (V) Drive>Osborne>Computer Tutorials>Importing Songs.

You also need to watch a 2nd video about the music at Video (V) Drive>Osborne>Computer Tutorials>Importing Songs 2  Make sure you watch both videos or you won’t be able to import your song into Movie Maker!

You can view my example video that I created by going to the Video (V) Drive>Osborne>Sports Island Example

Whenever you finish your movie/commercial, make sure that you save it the correct way. If you aren’t finished, save it like normal (File>Save as to your H Drive) Re-watch the Movie Maker Tutorial because it shows you how to save it in the correct format whenever you are 100% done with it. Whenever you save it in the video format I want you to save it to Students (I) Drive>Osborne>Your Hour>Islands

Week 5

Many of you are finishing your storyboards. Some of you are working on your Final Poster (plain white paper at the front of the room). Whenever you finish it, hold onto it because at some point you will need to take a picture of it with the digital camera.

Digital Camera Instructions:

1. Press the Power Button on the top.

2. Press and hold the Silver Circle on top to the camera to take a picture. You can zoom in and out with the long black button above “menu” and “s.night”, but you probably won’t need to use this.

3. After you take the picture, leave the camera on and use the cord from the pouch to connect the camera to your computer. If you use the red camera, you will need to select, “PC” after you plug it in for it to work.

4. A box should pop up on your screen asking you if you want to open files. If this box doesn’t pop up, click on “computer” on your desktop. Click on the (E) Drive which is a removable disc.

5. Double Click the DCIM Folder>Click the 100 Photo Folder>Scroll to the very bottom and double click on your photo.

6. Whenever the new box with your picture pops up, click FILE and “Make a Copy”.

7. Click on your H Drive and name the Picture the same name as your island and click “SAVE”

If you are ready to start your commercial, watch the video tutorial for Windows Movie Maker. You can access the movie from the Video (V) Drive>Osborne>Computer Tutorials>Movie Maker Tutorial.

Tomorrow, I will post a link to the website I want you to use for your music. I also will have a tutorial video that will show you how to save the music to your H Drive.

You can view the example video that I created by going to the Video (V) Drive>Osborne>Sports Island Example

Whenever you finish your movie/commercial, make sure that you save it the correct way. Re-watch the Movie Maker Tutorial because it shows you how to save it in the correct format whenever you are 100% done with it. Whenever you save it in the video format I want you to save it to Students (I) Drive>Osborne>Your Hour>Islands

Week 5

Just a reminder, here’s the directions and scoring guide for the entire project:  CREATE AN ISLAND – Scoring Guide

Many of you are still working on step 2, which is creating the storyboard. Finish step 2 and turn it in.

Make sure you only use open source pictures for your assignment or you will lose points. Use the link that I provided in the earlier post to find your open source pictures.

After you finish step 2, begin working on your poster. You need to turn your storyboard into me first. Instead of poster board, you will use plain, white paper. You can get some from the front of the classroom. Step 3 will likely take you at least 1 full class period if you do it correctly. Remember that you are being graded for neatness on this. To get full points it must be your neatest handwriting writing whenever you draw, label, and color. I have colored pencils up front if you need to borrow them. If you need a Sharpie for labeling, I will let you borrow them.

I do have 2-3 groups that are a little ahead right now. I don’t want some of my groups to get too far ahead so if you finish step 3 today, here’s what I want you to do:

1. Make sure you have turned in your Pre-production notes.

2. Make sure you have turned in your Storyboard.

3. If you didn’t finish your Landform Vocabulary PowerPoint last week, finish that now.

4. If you have all the above finished, you may:

-Work on homework from another class

-Read a book

-Visit class links/Google Earth

Week 5

I believe most students will finish step one of the project today. Remember, to finish step #1 you need to finish (and turn in) your Preproduction Notes and draw your Rough Draft Sketch.

If you are ready to start step #2, read the directions in the post below this entry.

Week 4

Most of you probably won’t finish step #1 today. The goal is for you finish step #1 on Monday. Hopefully you’ll even have enough time to start step #2 a little bit. Whenever you finish your script and the sketch of your island, you are ready to move onto step 2. Make sure you turn in your Preproduction notes on Google.

After you finish step 1 you need to begin working on step 2. Here is the website that you need to use to find some open source pictures for your assignment: http://search.creativecommons.org/

Before you start using Google Slides, watch the tutorial video that I made for it. It can be found at Video (V) Drive>Osborne>Computer Tutorials>Google Slides

You can look at the example Storyboard in our Google Classroom. Click this link to access Google Classroom

The directions for the entire assignment along with a scoring guide can be found here: CREATE AN ISLAND – Scoring Guide

Week 4

Today is your first day to work on the Island Project.

The scenario for this project is that you have a long lost relative that just died and they left you an island they owned. You want to make some money from the island so you have decided to open up the island for tourists to visit.

Today you need to focus on step #1 from the directions which is your Preproduction Planning. You need to work on your rough draft/script. Select your theme and your 10 landforms. Also, make sure you draw a sketch of your island. Whenever you think you are finished, show it to me.

You are going to use Google Classroom for steps 1 and 2 of the project. This is a new feature in Google and I expect that it is something you will use in the future. Click this link to access Google Classroom

Your log-in information is:

Username:   Mosis Number@r9tigermail.org

Password:    8 digit birthday

I will walk everyone through the next step once you are in Google Classroom.

Class Codes

1st hour:   g2pb763

2nd hour:   4taabyc

3rd hour:   3uht7ns

4th hour:   en8nh3b

5th hour:   rhqvmbi

6th hour:   kgpmdu

7th hour:   89grxv

You shouldn’t finish step 1 today, but I expect that most of you will finish this step tomorrow.

Don’t forget that you also need to draw a rough draft sketch of your island. Make sure you map out where all of the landforms go on it. This will make your job much easier later on.

Week 4

I will give you about 15-20 more minutes to finish up the Landform Vocabulary Assignment. If you are already finished with the vocab assignment, you may:

-read a book

-work on homework from another class

-visit class links

Today we are starting a huge project that will last through Thanksgiving Break. There are several steps to this project. It is very important that you follow directions very closely and that you do the project in the correct order.

The scenario for this project is that you have a long lost relative that just died and they left you an island they owned. You want to make some money from the island so you have decided to open up the island for tourists to visit.

You need to download this document and start looking over it: CREATE AN ISLAND – Scoring Guide

I will explain the project to you and show you an example of what a finished project should look like.
