Last Day of Semester

 Closing Out

Today is the last day that you will have this class. I hope that you have a new comfort level in dealing with technology. Next semester your World Geography class will be taught using more traditional methods.

I’m very impressed with how well you did this semester. You did a great job of taking the added responsibility that this class was designed to give you. Each semester keeps getting better and better.

Have a great Christmas break and good luck next semester.

Extra Time

Today you are allowed to do Cool Math or Google has a special Christmas section that you can go to here.

12 Days of Christmas

For today’s video, you can watch any video found inside the Etc. Folder. There’s a few videos in here that you haven’t watched yet. It’s found at Video (V) Drive>Osborne>Etc

Week 9

Today

Almost all assignments are now turned in! If you still have anything missing, you need to work on that. If you have everything turned in, you need to click on this link and wait for me to give you the PIN #.

12 Days of Christmas

Today’s video is one last OK Go video. They rode in an airplane that would fly at a high altitude and drop quickly to achieve zero gravity. You can find it at: Video (V)>Osborne>Christmas>OK Go Upside Down and Inside Out

Week 9

Missing Assignments

All missing work is due by this Friday! The semester ends on Friday and whenever you come back from break, you will be switching to a new World Geography class. Check Infinite Campus to make sure you have all of your assignments turned in. If you have anything missing, work on it today.

Extra Credit

Today’s assignment is OPTIONAL. I would advise everybody to do it though because it is worth 30 points Extra Credit. That’s quite a bit. There are 15 questions that are worth 2 points a piece. We’ve covered a few of these questions, but most of them are new material so you are allowed to use the internet. They all have something to do with Geography. You and your partner will work together and only do the assignment once. You will both earn the same score.

You will use the same website you use for Common Assessments to complete this assignment. Click on this link to do the assignment.

Your username is your first name, your last name, 309     There are no commas and no spaces. For example, my username would be:  jacobosborne309

Yours should look exactly like that except you will insert your first and last name instead of mine.

You must use your official school name. For example, if your name is William, but you go by Will, you must use your proper name William.

If you have 2 last names make sure you use both last names on your log-in. For example: If your name is Jose Reyes-Lopez, you would need to put josereyeslopez309.

Your password is your Mosis #.

Whenever you finish your test press “Submit”. You don’t have to tell me or show me your score. I have access to all of the scores.

The secret word for this assignment is:  extrac

12 Days of Christmas

Today’s video is another video of the guy with the funny and sometimes impressive camera tricks. You can find it at Video (V) Drive>Osborne>Christmas>More Camera Tricks

After You’re Finished

Since we are working on missing assignments today and tomorrow, I posted some Mythbuster episodes in the Christmas folder if you have everything finished. Double check Infinite Campus to make sure you have everything done first.

Your other options for free time are the same as always:

  1. Homework from another class
  2. Read a book
  3. Class Links/Google Earth

Make sure you have something to work on or I will find something for you to do.

Week 8

Today

The first thing I want you to do today is Check Infinite Campus to make sure that you have a grade for every assignment for this class. If there are any assignments that you don’t have a grade, that means I never received it from you. You aren’t allowed to make up any 1st quarter assignments. If there is any work that doesn’t get turned in by the end of this week, it will be a zero. If you have a grade for every assignment, that means all of your work for this class is complete.

The most recent assignments are:

  1. US Movie/TV Show Assignment
  2. Latin America Map
  3. Latin America Scavenger Hunt

I still have some students that are missing their Island Projects too!

If Everything’s turned in

As a reward for that, today we are going to watch a video about surviving in harsh, snow conditions in Sweden. You can access the video at Video (V) Drive>Osborne>Europe>MvsWArcticSweden

12 Days of Christmas

Today’s video is another OK GO video. In this video, all of their music, except for the ukulele, is created by their car and the obstacle course. The math and calculations that had to have been involved are amazing. Video (V) Drive>Osborne>Christmas>Car Physics

Week 8

US TV/Movie Assignment

If you already have your US Map and US Scavenger Hunt Assignments finished, you need to download this assignment: TV Movie States

For this assignment, you need to research the movies/tv shows that are listed on the last slide. Find out what state each of them took place in their stories. Then you will find the picture of a character from the movie/show and “cut” their picture from the bottom of the assignment and then “paste” them in the correct state. You may need to resize them to get them to fit inside of the correct state. You don’t need to do anything to the titles of the movies. Those are just there to help you know what shows to research. Only cut and paste the pictures.

I did one example for you. Walker, Texas Ranger obviously took place in the state of Texas so I cut and pasted Walker into Texas on the map. Use the region maps to paste your pictures to it. Don’t use the map that has all 50 states.

No state will be used more than one time.

When you are finished, save it and turn it in.

***TIP***

There is a difference between “place” and “setting”. When you search, if you type in “place” it sometimes brings up searches for where the movie/show was filmed. That’s not what I am asking for. I want to know what state the movie/show takes place in. That is called the story’s setting.

12 Days of Christmas

Today’s video is pretty impressive. It was made by 1 person using only post-it notes. He took thousands of pictures of his post-it note creations. None of this video is computer generated. You can find it Video (V)>Osborne>Christmas>Post-it Note Arcade

Week 8

Latin America Map

The first thing you need to do today is finish the Latin America Map from yesterday. After you finish it, turn it in.

Latin America Scavenger Hunt

There are still several students that need to finish the Latin America Scavenger Hunt, so after you turn in the Latin America Map, make sure you have this finished and turned in. If you don’t, spend the rest of class trying to get this finished.

12 Days of Christmas

I love today’s video. It is of an awesome soccer goalie, the man, the myth, the legend…Scott Sterling. Even if you hate soccer or sports, you’ll like this video. You can find it at Video (V) Drive>Osborne>Christmas>Soccer Goalie

Week 8

Latin America Map

Today’s assignment deals with Latin America maps. You will learn a new skill in Word to complete this assignment. You will need to watch the Tutorial video at Video (V) Drive>Osborne>Computer Tutorials>Using Scribble in Word. The document for your assignment can be found here: Mapping Latin America  Make sure you map all of the countries the directions tell you to. Don’t forget to map the Central American countries too.

Since this is the first time we’ve colored a map in this class I need to let you know that you need to stay away from the color blue whenever you color maps. Blue is generally associated with water so don’t use it on the countries.

When you finish the assignment, save it as:

hr-last name-last name-LAmap

12 Days of Christmas

Today’s video can be found at Video (V) Drive>Osborne>End of School> OK Go Umbrellas   It’s another OK Go video. What you see at the end is all from umbrellas. It is not enhanced by computers. I read an article on how they did this and it was pretty impressive

Week 8

Latin America Scavenger Hunt

I only have a few groups that have turned this assignment in. I’ll give you today to finish it and then we’ll move onto something new tomorrow. When you get it finished, turn it in. The Link for #18 has been giving some groups trouble. If you can’t access it from the document, click here.

12 Days of Christmas

Today’s video of the day is of Ohio State University’s marching band. They are famous for their creative formations that they use while they play. It’s neat how they work together to make them come to life. You can watch it at Video (V) Drive>Osborne>Christmas>The Ohio State University Hollywood Blockbuster

Whenever You’re Finished

Whenever you’re finished, you’re allowed to do what you normally are allowed to do:

  1. Read a Book
  2. Work on homework from another class
  3. Visit Class Links/Google Earth

Week 7

SLO Post Test

Today you are going to take your SLO Post Test. Take your time. This is your only assignment today and it is for a grade. It is worth 40 points. All of the answers are in the test if you know how to read the charts and maps.

You can access the test here.

I will tell you what the “secret word” for this assignment is whenever I’m ready for you to begin.

12 Days of Christmas

Today’s video is a fun/creative video from a few years ago. A couple of college soccer players found inspiration from Angry Birds. The video became a hit that a couple million people enjoyed watching. There is sound in this video, but it is not needed so don’t worry about getting headphones unless you already have some with you. You can find it at Video (V) Drive>Osborne>Christmas>Angry Bird Soccer

After the Test

1. Work on homework from another class

2. Read a book

3. Visit class links or since it’s a test day, I will allow you to visit Cool Math

Week 7

SLO Post Test

Tomorrow we will meet in the Media Center so you can take your SLO Post Test. This is for a grade!

I will give you about 10-15 minutes to do a short Climograph Practice Assignment. You can find the Climograph Practice Assignment here: Climograph Practice You don’t have to use complete sentences or turn this one in. After you finish this, we will review for tomorrow’s SLO Test as a class.

After we review for the SLO Test, you will have the rest of the hour to continue working on the Latin America Scavenger Hunt. I haven’t had anybody finish this yet. The Link for #18 has been giving some groups trouble. If you can’t access it from the document, click here.

12 Days of Christmas

In day 3 of the 12 Days of Videos I selected an Ok Go video. Ok Go is a band that tries to think outside of the box to create their videos. I think some of their videos are absolutely brilliant. They will pop up another few times before the semester is over. For this video they worked with students from MIT (Massachusetts Institute of Technology) to put together this crazy Rube Goldberg Machine.

To visit today’s video, go to the Video (V) Drive>Osborne>Christmas>Rube Goldberg
