Week 9

Missing Assignments

All missing work is due tomorrow! The semester ends tomorrow and whenever you come back from break, you will be switching to a new World Geography class. Check Infinite Campus to make sure you have all of your assignments turned in. If you have anything missing, work on it today.

Extra Credit

Today’s assignment is OPTIONAL. I would advise everybody to do it though because it is worth 30 points Extra Credit. That’s quite a bit. There are 15 questions that are worth 2 points a piece. We’ve covered a few of these questions, but most of them are new material so you are allowed to use the internet. They all have something to do with Geography. You and your partner will work together and only do the assignment once. You will both earn the same score.

You will use the same website you use for Common Assessments to complete this assignment. Click on this link to do the assignment.

Your username is your first name, your last name, 306. There are no commas and no spaces. For example, my username would be:  jacobosborne306

Yours should look exactly like that except you will insert your first and last name instead of mine.

You must use your official school name. For example, if your name is William, but you go by Will, you must use your proper name William.

If you have 2 last names make sure you use both last names on your log-in. For example: If your name is Jose Reyes-Lopez, you would need to put josereyeslopez306.

Your password is your Mosis #.

Whenever you finish your test press “Submit”. You don’t have to tell me or show me your score. I have access to all of the scores.

The secret word for this assignment is:  extrac

Week 8

Presentations

Today we are going to play everyone’s commercials. If we have extra time after we finish, groups who haven’t finished theirs yet will need try to get theirs finished

12 Days of Videos

Today’s video is another OK GO video. In this video, all of their music, except for the ukulele, is created by their car and the obstacle course. The math and calculations that had to have been involved are amazing.

Week 8

Final Work Day

The plan is for today to be the final full class period you get to work on the project. I have given you all of the resources you need to finish everything.

If Finished

If you are all the way finished I would like to reward you with a free day. However, if you don’t find something to quietly keep you buys, I have posted an assignment in Google Classroom. You only have to do that assignment if you can’t keep yourself quietly busy.

Today you may do any of the following:

  • Cool Math
  • Watch 12 Days of Videos
  • Nitro Type
  • Visit Santa Tracker. Google has made different Christmas themed games and activities that you can do

12 Days of Christmas

Today’s video of the day is of Ohio State University’s marching band. They are famous for their creative formations that they use while they play. It’s neat how they work together to make them come to life.

Week 8

Project

Today and tomorrow are the final work days on the project. Many students are already finished and I will have things for you to do. Those of you that are still working need to follow all directions that have previously been posted and try to get the project completed.

Brain Teaser

If you are finished with the project, there is a Brain Teaser assignment posted in Google Classroom. You will need to watch the tutorial video to see how to create a table and the video will also show you how to set up the solution to the problem. This puzzle is pretty difficult. It can be solved, but you have to figure out each answer in a certain order for it to work.

12 Days of Christmas

I love today’s video. It is of an awesome soccer goalie, the man, the myth, the legend…Scott Sterling. Even if you hate soccer or sports, you’ll like this video. You can find it in Google Classroom.

Week 7

Island Project

Continue working on the project. You should be finished with the first 3 steps after today. If you aren’t finished with the first 3 steps, you are behind where you should be by now.

I have posted directions for every step of the project. The only thing that I haven’t posted how to do yet is turn it in which I posted those directions in the next paragraph.

Turning in your Project

There is a new post in Google Classroom. Go to Google Classroom and read and follow the instructions to turn it in.

Make sure the name of your saved island is the name of your island. Mine would be saved as, “Sports Island”.

12 Days of Christmas

Today’s video is another OK Go video. What you see at the end is all from umbrellas. It is not enhanced by computers. I read an article on how they did this and it was pretty impressive.

Week 7

Island Project

Continue working on your island project. I have already given you access to all of the directions that you need for the project.

Error Messages

If you get an error message or microphone error it is likely pretty easily fixable.

Microphone issue- make sure the microphone is plugged in and press the refresh button; that should fix it.

12 Days of Christmas

Today’s video is pretty impressive. It was made by 1 person using only post-it notes. He took thousands of pictures of his post-it note creations. None of this video is computer generated.

Week 7

Creating the Commercial

For this part of the project you are going to use Adobe Spark.

Signing Up for Spark

Adobe Spark can be kind of a mess for logging in. The issue we discovered was that you have to be 13 years old. If you are already 13, you should be able to log-in or create your account without problems. If you are not 13 yet, here is a work around for you to create your account.

  1. Sign out of Google in the top right-hand corner of your screen.
  2. Search for Adobe Spark
  3. Click to go into Adobe Spark’s website
  4. Click “Log-in or Sign-in” button at the top of the screen
  5. Click on the “Sign up with email” option
  6. Fill out the information to create an account. You will have to create your own password. For the birthday, you will need to pick a date that makes it to where you are at least 13 years old. If you are only 12, either use a different birthday that is before 12/09 2007 or use 2006 as your birth year.
  7. Click “Log-in”
  8. Click “Log-in with Adobe ID”
  9. Use the Log-in account that you just created to get Logged into Spark.

If you are 13, you will use Chrome and all you need to do to log-in is:

  1. Click Log-in in the upper right hand corner.
  2. Click “Continue with Google”
  3. Type in your normal Google username and password just like you are signing into Google Classroom

After you get logged-in, watch the Tutorial Video that shows you how to use the program. You can access that video at: Google Classroom

*To record your voice, you will need to use special headphones. I have a box in the back of the room, by the desk, that you can borrow some of these from. These headphones are a little bit different:

-To get them to work, plug them into your USB Port at the front of your computer.

-Make sure the microphone is closer to your chin than it is to your nose. If you have it too close to your nose, it’ll pick up a lot breathing noises.

*When you add narration, wait one second after you press the record button before you begin talking and then hold the record button one extra second after you finish speaking so your picture stays on the screen a little bit longer.

Pictures

You will get most of your pictures from Adobe. Whenever you watch the Tutorial video, it shows you how to get pictures from Adobe. Those pictures are Open Source.

If there is a picture/landform that you are having trouble finding in Adobe, you can use this link which is a website called Creative Commons.

To use Creative Commons, Type the word(s) you want to search for. Then click on Google Images. Then it will take you to pictures from Google Images that are all Open Source. When you find the picture you want to use, right-click on it and select “save image as” then save it to your H Drive.

12 Days of Christmas

In day 3 of the 12 Days of Videos I selected an Ok Go video. Ok Go is a band that tries to think outside of the box to create their videos. I think some of their videos are absolutely brilliant. They will pop up another few times before the semester is over. For this video they worked with students from MIT (Massachusetts Institute of Technology) to put together this crazy Rube Goldberg Machine.
