Africa Map Assignment

Everyone will go ahead and do this assignment today. This assignment will require you to read and follow directions very carefully! You are going to be creating a map by using the tools in Word.

You need to watch a video first. The video you need to watch is located at    Video (V) Drive>Osborne>Computer Tutorials>Inserting Shapes to Word   (Note: It’s NOT the video titled, “Copying and Adding Shapes in Word”)

While you work, it would be a good idea to have your study guide out so you can double check to make sure that your map is correct.

Here are the directions for the assignment. Make sure you read them closely and double check them to make sure you don’t skip any steps.  Africa Map Directions

Finish Assignments

Today your priorities are to:

  1. Finish your SLO Assignment
  2. Finish the Latin America Scavenger Hunt
  3. Begin working on the Latin America Map Assignment

Latin America Map

Today’s assignment deals with Latin America maps. You will learn a new skill in Word to complete this assignment. You will need to watch the Tutorial video at Video (V) Drive>Osborne>Computer Tutorials>Using Scribble in Word. The document for your assignment can be found here: Mapping Latin America  Make sure you map all of the countries the directions tell you to. Don’t forget to map the Central American countries too. 

Since this is the first time we’ve colored a map in this class I need to let you know that you need to stay away from the color blue whenever you color maps. Blue is generally associated with water so don’t use it on the countries.  

When you finish the assignment, save it as:

US Scavenger Hunt

Very few students finished this from yesterday. Finish this first.

Use the internet to help you create a map of the US. The directions and the the outline map for you to use in the assignment are found here: US Map Assignment

To complete part of the assignment you will need to watch a tutorial video. Watch the first 2:30 of the video found at Video (V) Drive>Osborne>Computer Tutorials>Inserting Shapes to Word

Extra Credit

Your States and Capitals extra credit is due tomorrow. Directions for it are in yesterday’s post. You aren’t allowed to work on this in class. It must be done outside of class.

Week 3

1. You need to grab 1 ruler for you and your partner to share. They are on the desk at the very front of the classroom (you walk right past it when you come in the door).

2. Grab 1 sheet of plain white paper for both you and your partner. You each need your own sheet.

3. On one side of your paper, copy this: New Carthage map. Use your ruler and start copying the outer portions first. It should take up nearly your entire paper. Don’t try to trace it on the screen. That can scratch up the screen.

4. On the other side of the paper, copy this list Map Locations

5. When you finish steps 1-4. Sit quietly and wait for further instructions.

Most of the rest of the school year we are going to focus on Europe. We will have quite a few introductory assignments this week and next week and then we will work on a multi-week project.

The main religion in Europe is Christianity. It doesn’t dominate the culture there as much as religion dominates the Middle East and India, but it still plays a major role in many European countries. Today you have an assignment that will teach you the basics of Christianity. You need to read this document: Basics of Christianity
