Week 2

Absolute and Relative Location

The first thing we will do today is go over the Absolute and Relative Location. Have yours open on your screen.

Catch Up Day

Today is your last day with your current partner so that means it should be a catch up day. The first thing I will do on catch up days is go over what students are missing work. If you think you have all of your assignments finished, you can check for yourself. Check your grades on Infinite Campus. If you don’t know how to check your grades in Infinite Campus, I am going to show you at the beginning of class.

Your first priority today is to make sure you have finished your Core Geography Concepts assignment. After you have that finished, you should be working on the Google Earth Assignment. If you finish the Google Earth Assignment, turn it in.

Whenever you are finished with all of your assignments make sure you find something to do. If you need help, I will find something for you to do and I doubt you would want me to have to do that. You have 3 options:

1. Read a book

2. Work on homework from another class

3. Visit class links on my website or Google Earth on the desktop

Week 2

Absolute and Relative Location

It doesn’t matter if you are finished with all assignments yet or not. Today everyone needs to be working on the Absolute and Relative Location assignment. This lesson focuses on Absolute and Relative Location. This isn’t a difficult concept, but you do have to pay attention for closely to the details. The first thing you need to do is watch a video that teaches you about Absolute Location. You can access the video at:> Google Drive>Shared Drives>Videos>Osborne>Concepts>Absolute Location

I think the website I used to show you Absolute Location has a lot of good information, but it doesn’t really teach you about Relative Location. Relative Location is a place’s location in relation to another location. You don’t use degrees whenever you find Relative Location.

For example:

Mexico is south of the United States.

Joplin is west of Carthage.

If you notice, there are 2 locations given in both examples and a direction is also given. That’s how Relative Location should always look. It should have 2 locations and 1 direction. There are usually several different answers that could work for Relative Location.

After you go through all of the slides on the website above, you need to go to Google Classroom and do today’s assignment on Absolute and Relative Location.

You will be using the textbooks for this assignment, but you are only using them for their maps.

To type the °symbol, press and hold “alt” on your keyboard, then type 248 using the number keys on the right hand side of your keyboard.

Week 2

Core Concepts

You really should be finished with this by now. If you aren’t, you are a little bit behind and you need to try to work a little bit faster. This is still priority #1. Finish this before moving on.

Google Earth

You need to continue working on the Google Earth Scavenger Hunt. You can access the video at: Google Drive>Shared Drives>Videos>Osborne>Computer Tutorials>Basics of Google Earth

***Tip for #10*** The Colosseum the question is talking about is located in Rome.

After you watch the video, the assignment is in Google Classroom.

Week 2

Core Concepts

Some of you finished this yesterday, but most of you still had a little bit to finish. Continue working on this today. As long as you get this finished today, you are right on track to where I want you to be. Finishing this assignment is priority number 1 today.

Google Earth

My hope is that you can get to this assignment at some point today. Most of you have used Google Earth before, but there’s some tools that it has available that you might not be aware of.  The first thing you need to do is watch a video that teaches you about Google Earth. I will show you how to access videos, but if you want to try to find it on your own you go to: Google Drive>Team Drives>Videos>Osborne>Computer Tutorials>Basics of Google Earth

After you watch the video, you have an assignment in Google Classroom.

Week 1

Pretest

Today we are going to take a Maps, Charts, and Graphs Pretest. This test has examples of maps, charts, and graphs that we will be learning about in class this school year. Today is a pretest to see how much you already know about them. We will take this same test again at the end of the semester to see how much knowledge you gain over the course of the semester.

Your username is your first name, your last name, 232     There are no commas and no spaces. For example, my username would be:  jacobosborne232

Yours should look exactly like that except you will insert your first and last name instead of mine.

You must use your official school name. For example, if your name is William, but you go by Will, you must use your proper name William.

If you have 2 last names, make sure you use both last names on your log-in. For example: If your name is Jose Reyes-Lopez, you would need to put josereyeslopez and then the number 232.

Your password is your Mosis #.

After you log-in, it will ask you for a secret word. The secret word is:   pretest

Here is a link to the test.

Whenever you finish your test press “Submit”. You don’t have to tell me or show me your score. I have access to all of the scores.

After the Test

After you submit your test you may:

1. Read a book

2. Work on homework

3. Visit class links

Week 1

Google Search

I will give you about 15-20 minutes to finish your Google Search assignment.  After that we are going to talk about this assignment as a class.

Tomorrow

All classes will meet in the Media Center tomorrow. We have to take a pretest so everyone will need their own computer. We will be in the Media Center Computer Lab.

Week 1

Google Search Assignment

You need to open the Google Search questions from yesterday. You can access it at Google Classroom or Google Drive.  I will give you the whole hour to finish this. Tomorrow we will go over them as a class and I will give you tips on how to more effectively use Google.

If you are able to finish it, make sure you click the “turn in” button in Google Classroom.

When Finished

If you are able to get it done, you have 3 things that you are always allowed to do during free time:

-Read a book

-Work on homework from another class

-Visit Class Links/Google Earth

Week 1

Class Rules and Procedures

Today we will be going over classroom rules and procedures. Go ahead and open this document: CLASS PROCEDURES

I will go over this with you after I take attendance.

Google Search

After we go over those, you need to work on the Google Search assignment. You can access it at Google Classroom. You will have the rest of the class period today and the whole class tomorrow. Then we will go over it together as a class and I will give tips on how to be more effective using Google. I will not help you with answers because I want to see if you can find them yourself.

Week 1

Presentations

I will give you about 15 minutes to finish your presentations. If you finish early, you may visit my Class Links.

Make sure you look over your partner’s information so you have an idea what you will say during your presentation. If there’s any words you don’t know how to pronounce, ask your partner what they were trying to say.

After the time is up, you will present the information about your partner to the class so you can introduce them to us.
