Week 9

Today we are going to take our 1st Common Assessment. You can access it at this link.

Your username is your first name, your last name, 373     There are no commas and no spaces. For example, my username would be:  jacobosborne373

Yours should look exactly like that except you will insert your first and last name instead of mine.

Your password is your Mosis #.

I will tell you what the “secret word” for this assignment is whenever I’m ready for you to begin.

Whenever you finish the test:

Do not use the internet or any resources for this assignment. This isn’t for a grade. This is for practice to show you how prepared (or unprepared) you are for the test. The test will be next Wednesday.

Take this practice quiz. If it asks you to log-in, use the same log-in from the the Common Assessment.

The secret word is:  practice

After you finish your quiz, look at the chart below and compare to how many you got correct to see what your letter grade would be if this was an actual test.

23-25 = A

20-22 = B

18-19 = C

15-17 = D

14 and below = F

After you have taken the practice test you may:

1. Work on homework from another class

2. Read a book

3. Study States and Capitals

4. Visit class links

Week 9

Tomorrow we are going to take a Common Assessment Test. We will take one of these in each quarter. Today we are going to do a 1st quarter review to refresh what all we’ve covered this quarter. You need to work on this document: 1st Quarter Review

For tomorrow’s class we will be in the Media Center.

Reminder: If you didn’t finish an assignment from your last rotation, you have until Thursday to turn it in before you receive a ZAP.

Week 8

Today is your final day with your current partner so it is a catch up day. You need to finish any missing assignments.

Whenever you finish the assignments, turn them in.

Any work that you don’t finish today is due by next Thursday or you will receive a ZAP. If you have an assignment that you don’t finish, I’d suggest that you save it to the Student (I) Drive so both of you can access it.

After you are finished with all of your work:

-Study for States and Capitals and postal abbreviations test. This test is tentatively scheduled for October 23, but that date isn’t set in stone. It might move up a day or two or it could move back a day or two. Start preparing now!

-Work on homework from another class

-Read a book

-Visit Google Earth or class links

Week 8

In this assignment you are going to learn the basics of Microsoft Excel. Most of you have never used this program before. The first thing I want you to do is to watch the tutorial video that I made. Go to the Video (V) Drive. Inside the Video Drive, I want you to click the following: Video>Osborne>Computer Tutorials>Excel Basics.

After you watch the video, you need to open Microsoft Excel. It opens the same way as Word and PowerPoint. I want you to create a document that has:

1. Three Headings- CountriesPopulation$GDP    I want you to use size 18 font for the headings and make them bold.

2. In the countries column there are 15 countries I want you to include. They are: United States, China, Japan, India, Iraq, Afghanistan, Egypt, Brazil, Mexico, Guatemala, Russia, South Africa, Germany, France, and United Kingdom.

3. In the population column, you need to go to Google and type <name of country> population. Type their exact population next to the correct country in the population column.

4. In the $GDP column, you need to use this link to find the GDP per capita in each of the countries.  Type the GDP for each country in the column. Make sure you use dollar signs. If you want to you can do what I did in the video and highlight the column and change the numbers to currency instead of typing the $ sign. There should be no extra zeros after the decimal place. You shouldn’t even have a decimal place on chart. The video shows you how to do this.

5. After each column is finished, make a 2-D Column Chart for population. You will do it the exact same way that I did in the video.

6. Make a 2-D Bar Graph for GDP. You will do it the exact same way that I did in the video.

After you finish save it.  hr-last name-last name-Excel

Turn it in.

***2 Tips***

1. You can’t have the word million or billion in your spreadsheet. Make sure you only use numbers. If you include words in your cells, it will mess up the charts and graphs.

2. Make sure that you only highlight the selected cells that have data. If you highlight extra cells that don’t have data, they will mess up the charts and graphs.

Week 8

Today I’m going to go over a PowerPoint presentation with you. I want to make sure that you understand all of the concepts related to population. Go ahead and submit any assignments that you finished on Friday. After that you need to sit quietly and we will begin shortly.

We should have time after the PowerPoint for you to start the next assignment. We will work on this assignment the next couple of day of class.

After you finish save it.  hr-last name-last name-Excel

Turn it in.

Week 7

Since I’m not here today, you can’t submit any assignments. If you have an assignment that you complete today, save it and submit it to me whenever we have school on Tuesday.

Very few groups finished the assignment from yesterday. Your tasks for the day are to:

1. Finish the Population Vocabulary assignment from yesterday.

2. Finish any other assignment from this week (MO Timeline or the MO Review assignment on Quia)

3. Study states, capitals, and postal abbreviations. You can use pages 142-143 in your planner or you may use internet resources to study.

4. If you still have extra time and you’ve finished all of your work and spent some time studying you may:

-Work on homework from another class

-Read a book

-Visit Google Earth or class links

Week 7

We are going to spend a few days talking about population. That might sound like a boring topic, but it actually is pretty interesting. Today we need to build a little background knowledge though. You are going to find definitions and pictures for some of the words we will be discussing over the next couple of days.

You need to download this document: Population Vocab  You need to use the online textbook or grab a World Cultures and Geography textbook off of the shelf to find the definitions. The definitions must come out of the textbook unless they tell you otherwise.

Your online textbook can be found in this link: To log-in go to this website.

Your username is:    your MOSIS number

Your password is:   tigers123

If it gives you a message saying that you logged in successfully, but it doesn’t know where to take you, try going to this website. Once it loads, select sign-in.

The definitions can be found in the glossary or by using pages 74-81. You will type the definition for each of the words in the PowerPoint. On each slide, you need to find a picture that represents the vocabulary word. I did the first one for you as an example. I typed the definition for “population” and then I found a picture online that represented it. The world population is now over 7 billion people. You need to do the same thing on the remaining slides. On some of the slides, I’ve already inserted pictures for you, but you still need to find the definitions. On most slides you will need to type the definition and find a picture on the internet that is an example of the word. When you finish, every slide will have a definition and a picture on it.

Whenever you finish, save it:

Turn it in.

Week 7

1. If you didn’t finish your Missouri Review assignment from yesterday, finish that first.

2. Today is an Early Out Day. I want you to spend some time learning where to identify the states on a map and matching states, capitals, and postal abbreviations. In a couple of weeks you will be tested over these individually (No partners)  so you need to start studying them. I want you to spend time using both links. At no point in time should you be on Google Earth or on any of the games from my class Links.

Link 1: There’s a large variety of resources at this website. You can start off on the “Beginner” levels and try to work your way up to “Advanced”. They have games that allow you to practice identifying states on a map and they have games that have you match states with capitals.

Link 2: You will want to be a little familiar with a US Map before you visit this link. You have to place the correct state name on the correct state. It has a timer so you can do this multiple times to see if you can beat your previous high score. You may also look around on this website because it has other state, capital, and postal abbreviation games.

Link 3: This website shows you a state on a map and you have to select what the capital is.

Week 7

Today you have a Missouri Review assignment on Quia. Most of the material is a review. There are only a few items that are new information. This is not a quiz. You are allowed to use previous assignments or the internet to help you find your answers. Either you or your partner need to log onto Quia. The link for your assignment is here.

Your username is your first name, your last name, 373     There are no commas and no spaces. For example, my username would be:  jacobosborne373

Yours should look exactly like that except you will insert your first and last name instead of mine.

Your password is your Mosis #.

The “secret word” for this assignment is:  Missouri

*****Announcement*****

There are a couple of problems on the map.

1. There should be a number 3 next to the star.

2. Free Answer!  Lake of the Ozarks got left off of the map. The answer should be 7.

After you finish the assignment, you need to finish your Missouri Timeline assignment from yesterday. Most of you didn’t turn that in yet.
